We stayed for seven nights in a really spacious family room and found the hotel good value for money. It’s halfway between the seafront and town centre, not far from the Esplanade, with easy access to transport. The young woman serving breakfast was pleasant and helpful, and we enjoyed our stay.

The pork roast was delicious, and the portion was so big that neither my husband nor I could finish it. We still managed dessert, though. The lemon drizzle was moist, very lemony and really nice. The staff were friendly, courteous and attentive. We were impressed and would recommend the restaurant to anyone. We hope you’ll be open on Christmas Day, as we’re looking forward to enjoying your food again. We’ll definitely be back before then. Thanks for an enjoyable experience 😊

I nearly walked out on the first night because the room smelled so strongly of smoke. The worst part was that there was no coffee before 9am. The room also needs painting, the bathroom sink was far too low, and the shower ran slower than expected. The bathroom looked clean, but I know for a fact my cup was rinsed in the sink for the second night. The location was good, but I never expected Booking.com to recommend somewhere with standards this poor.

The Sunday roast pork was very nice, with good flavour, and the vegetables were cooked just how we like them, not boiled to bits. The staff were friendly and polite, and the person who served us apologised for the venue change and offered a discount, which we appreciated as we’d been considering leaving. We left a tip, though I think they could use a bit of training on how to keep track of diners and provide service. We’d booked Sunday lunch online at Artisan bar, but were redirected to Yelfs after being told our meal would be served there. Staff didn’t seem to have our reservation at first, and it looked like fitting us in might be a problem, though they did find us a table. Drinks and lunch orders took a little while. After we finished, our plates weren’t cleared while other diners’ plates were, and when dessert was served the staff didn’t seem to check if we wanted any. We ended up getting up to pay without dessert. We mentioned the service issue when paying and got an apology; they said they were a bit understaffed.

We had an eight-month-old baby with us, who spent almost an hour in that room because it was the only one available of the three we’d booked. The thought of what might have happened is chilling. We also had to throw away personal belongings to avoid bringing bed bugs home. I deserve more than a refund for the discarded property, sleepless night, and mental and physical distress. This place is a health hazard. Do not book here if you want to protect your comfort, safety and sanity. At 4:00 AM, I woke in a panic when something flickered inside my left ear. It was a large bed bug that had crawled into my ear, and I’m still dealing with discomfort and psychological trauma. My partner and I checked the room and found a heavy infestation on the pillows, in the bed, crawling on the carpet and even on the sofa. Like something from a horror film. We reported it straight away and asked to move for the last few hours of the night, but reception said nothing was available. We had to sleep in the reading room, exhausted, frightened and angry. A staff member finally came at 7:00 AM, apologised and processed a refund, but said they didn’t know about the infestation. I find that impossible given how obvious and extreme it was. There’s no way housekeeping or management hadn’t noticed. This was neglect and irresponsibility of the highest order. Room 37 was an absolutely disgusting and traumatising experience. If I could give zero stars, I would.
