Park Lodge B&B

The proprietor was lovely and very helpful, but the property felt tired and was too far out of Ryde for the relaxing break we wanted. Our room faced a busy main road, and the double glazing did little to block the noise. The mattress was really, really firm, and the toilet gave us trouble a few times during our six-night stay. Breakfast was OK, though not a full English. Some of the usual items weren't available, so we made our own cut-back version as usual.

The only small annoyance was how thin the curtains were. It got so bright that I was waking at 5.30am. I'd happily return, but would ask for a room on the other side. The TV is ultra small, so don't expect much from watching it in your room. The rooms were very clean, and there was plenty of free street parking. Ryde is only a five-minute drive away. Breakfast was great and a good start before a day's walk: two rashers of bacon, an egg, beans, half a tomato and toast, with jam, Marmite, cereal and fruit. None of it tasted greasy, which was a nice surprise. Breakfast is served at 8.30am. Great value.

Carol and Chris were welcoming and so accommodating. We asked to check in four hours early so we could go to a festival, and they had the room ready and invited us in straight away. Everything was perfectly clean and tidy, and the room had an ensuite. Breakfast was freshly cooked, with plenty of tea, coffee, juice and toast. On the morning we left, they even gave us a lift to the hovercraft. Nothing was too much trouble. We'd stay again without hesitation, thank you so much.

The owners were friendly and attentive, and breakfast was good. I stayed overnight with a colleague on a work trip. Our room was spacious and the bed was good. A few biscuits in the room and a slightly larger TV would be nice, but otherwise it was great. Ryde esplanade is about a 15-minute walk down, and there's also a bus stop nearby.
