South Sands Boutique Hotel

This was our third stay, and we hope to return again. We felt very welcome with our five-month-old puppy, and the staff were friendly. The hotel is well appointed and overlooks South sands beach, Salcombe. Breakfast was excellent, and we enjoyed dinner on both nights. Parking is free for guests, just across the road. Salcombe is a scenic part of South Devon, on an estuary with lots of boating and water activities, as well as lovely coastal walks.

We tried the restaurant after reading the reviews, as we were staying at the hotel opposite and its restaurant wasn't highly rated. The service was not bad. The calamari was a little rubbery, though not too bad, and the seafood stew was very average. My wife's butternut squash tortellini was bland and tasted a bit odd, so she left it.

The terrace view at breakfast was a lovely way to start the morning, and breakfast was included. Our room was well equipped, and the staff looked after us so well. South Sands made our first trip to Salcombe much more comfortable, with its beautiful setting and attentive, friendly staff. I'd definitely find a reason to come back soon.

The food was the real highlight of our stay. There were lots of gems, especially the whole baked plaice and the scrambled egg at breakfast, both cooked exquisitely. Many thanks to all the staff. We stayed for one night to celebrate my wife's 80th birthday. The hotel is very comfortable, the location is lovely, and the staff were extremely helpful and supportive.
