Our Christmas stay was a real letdown, especially the dinner, which cost £95 each. The turkey came in thin slices from a roll, and the few vegetables and roast potatoes tasted like frozen food. Everything was covered in thick, very salty gravy, and the tiny catering-pack pudding came with barely any custard. It was worse than a school dinner. The lounges and dining rooms were cold, with just one barely burning fire, and I had to keep my coat on while eating. Decorations were sparse too, just a couple of small trees and a few bowls of plastic flowers. We’d booked three days over Christmas and paid separately for the meal. The hotel itself is an attractive old building, and our room was spacious, clean, comfortable, and had a large bathroom. My husband and I left very disappointed.

We had a lovely night here, right in the middle of town. The rooms have a special feel and were clean and in excellent condition. It’s an old building, but that gives it the atmosphere of a proper British hotel, with a cozy fireplace and a welcoming dining hall. A magical place, highly recommended.

The Christmas party for about 40 of our old comrades was a brilliant success. The Red lion team were there to help all evening, and the food service ran smoothly, with everyone getting hot food promptly. Thank you, Red lion team, and Merry Christmas. Hope you can soon put your feet up by a roaring fire. See you next year for Round 3. Cheers from The Dragon's x We held our annual party last Saturday at this well located city centre hotel. From the first booking through to setting up the function area, the team were outstanding.

The bar service made a big difference to the Christmas Nucleus party on 19th December. One guy handled the whole bar by himself all night, keeping drinks coming and making sure there were clean glasses and restocks as needed. He was kind, professional, and friendly throughout, even when things were busy. We really appreciated his effort and the excellent service from start to finish. Thank you!

The room itself was nicely decorated, the bed was comfortable, and staff were mostly friendly and helpful, though they had a habit of disappearing. The late Saturday check-in man could use some customer service training and wasn’t very friendly. There was also a constant hum from an adjoining plant room, though closing the bathroom door cut out most of it. The sash window didn’t work. Sleep was badly disrupted. Around 11pm, a man banged on the side gate, swore about being locked out of his room, then later groups coming from local pubs and clubs repeatedly shouted, swore, and threatened each other outside, waking us several times. At around 4pm, another resident tapped on our door or the meeting room next door, saying he was locked out. I thought it might be staff at first. He was probably the same man from the gate, and may have been drinking or taking something. We got so little sleep that we came home needing a rest. Breakfast had a reasonable continental and cooked selection and was tasty, although the beans seemed to have been reheated several times and were dry. We also had Sunday lunch with family. My sister’s burger was forgotten, and when it finally arrived it was pink inside. She has never ordered a rare burger or steak, and I don’t remember anyone asking how she wanted it cooked. By then, everyone else had finished, and the meal was spoiled. We’d eaten lunch here a few years ago and enjoyed it, so this was a shame. Thanks for replying, Petar. I understand street noise is generally outside your control, but secondary double glazing could help. The burger being missed and then served undercooked ruined the lunch for us.
