The people did a lot to keep this from being a worse stay. Kieran at reception was especially good when I’d accidentally booked the wrong night. He stayed calm, sorted it professionally, and even checked the room because of a system mix-up. Anush also made the first breakfast much better, cooking the eggs nicely and bringing great energy. The next morning, without him, I’d eaten half my food before anyone from staff showed up, and the buffet looked pretty sad. The mushrooms seemed past it, the hash browns were soft, and I didn’t try the meat. The hotel is clean and modern, with plenty of parking, and my room and bathroom were clean too. I was told it was a “privilege room”, though it felt like a regular king room. It was dark, the TV was only comfortable to watch from bed, and the wide bed was oddly short for me at 5’10. Around the hotel it’s quiet. One evening the room was cold because housekeeping had left a window open and the wall heater didn’t seem to be working. The bigger issue was the hot water. There wasn’t any on either of two mornings, and reception was noting down several room numbers. I was told after the first day it would be fixed, but the second day’s shower was still cold. Early morning doors slamming also made sleep uncertain. This was my first stay with Garner, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts. The staff were excellent, but hot water, heating, breakfast consistency, and what “privilege” means all need attention.

The receptionist working New Year’s night was lovely, and his service was the best part of our stay. My partner and I booked at the last minute for New Year’s Eve, but the room was freezing when we arrived and the shower stayed cold whatever temperature we set. There was also food left on the window ledge, including a boiled egg, bread, and opened cheese. It smelled unpleasant, so we had to take it out into the hallway ourselves. The room clearly hadn’t been checked or cleaned properly. For £86, it was an extremely poor experience. I’d have taken a refund if that had been possible. 0/10 if I could, and I wouldn’t come back. It’s a shame the receptionist’s good service was let down by the hotel. Very disappointing from IHG.

The room was good for our one-night visit while my partner and I were in Burnley. There was a portable fridge with water in it. The only problem was the fan high on the wall didn’t seem to blow the hot air out very well. The man who helped us on Saturday night was very friendly and professional. I can’t remember his name, but he was Asian. I’d stay again, thanks!

The shower was amazing, the room was beautiful and the bed was so comfortable. Service was really nice too, everyone was polite. Garner was probably the best hotel I’ve been to in the UK. I’d recommend it to everyone I know.

The room had modern decor and was clean, but it was freezing during my February stay. The radiator wasn’t working, so I had to get into bed to keep warm. I’d been working all day and didn’t want the hassle of asking to change rooms, so I didn’t report it.
