The Grosvenor Arms

I'm currently staying at The Grosvenor Arms, and it's been a very disappointing experience. We weren't told before booking that there would be a wedding during our stay, though we understand hotels host private events. Guests should be given that information in advance because it can affect the stay so much. The reception music is extremely loud in our room, to the point it feels like we're part of the event. We haven't been able to properly rest or sleep. Being able to relax and get a good night's sleep is one of the basic things I expect from a hotel room, and that hasn't been possible. The lack of advance notice and the disturbance have made the stay far from what we expected. I hope the hotel reviews how it communicates with guests about private events.

The service made this birthday night away with friends stand out. Everyone was attentive, and Josh deserves a special mention for going above and beyond to make sure we had a fantastic stay. We had dinner in the restaurant, where the menu was so appealing it was hard to choose. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and great value. It's such a lovely place to stay and eat. The rooms are beautiful, with super comfortable beds and lots of nice touches. We'd definitely recommend it, will certainly come back, and are looking forward to trying some of the other locations too.

The dinner was fantastic, compliments to the chefs. The hotel and rooms were spotless, and the food was amazing. The main frustration was having to search for someone whenever we wanted a drink. At check-in we stood around like lost sheep, then had to wander off to find someone. A bell might help. Getting someone to take our drink order meant hunting around again each time. Better table and reception service would have made this five stars.

The food was great, and the young guy managing the restaurant is excellent. For our big birthday party, he remembered our request and put us in the end 'library'. He was warmly efficient and had a sense of humour. More recently, although the restaurant was fully booked, he found us a table for an early dinner. The waitresses are lovely and helpful too. A credit to the hotel and the town.
