The Channel View Hotel

We spent Christmas and New Year here with our two children, staying from the 21st through to 2 January. The staff were friendly and very helpful, and the food was great, with good options for the kids. When meals weren't being served, they recommended other places. Our room was spacious and right at the top of the hotel. Someone even helped me carry presents up, which I hadn't expected and really appreciated. Great value, and we'd definitely stay again.

The heated indoor pool was free for guests, and breakfast was really tasty, served by lovely friendly staff. It’s a charming old hotel in a perfect spot, with comfortable beds and sea views from some rooms. I’ll definitely stay here again.

Breakfast was included and had a fabulous range of food, so the stay was very good value. Our room was spotless, with plenty of space and a roomy bathroom, and the bed was comfortable. There was lots of tea, coffee and milk, too. The staff were helpful and friendly throughout. We also enjoyed the pool, especially the warm changing area and good shower. Great location, and I’d happily visit again.

The only part of our Shearings Christmas break I liked was room 45. Across the four days, the only good meal was Christmas Day lunch. On the first evening, I ordered belly pork, but what arrived was a hard pork chop. The waiter checked with the chef and came back saying it was belly pork. Another day, my partner asked the stand-in manager for a bread roll because there was a plate and knife at the table. He said rolls were only available with soup. There was no wine waiter in the dining room, and the entertainment was awful. On Boxing Day we'd forgotten the dinner time, so we asked the would-be manager. He said we'd been told at the arrival meeting, then walked off. We'll never take a Shearings holiday again.
