The man who welcomed us at reception was great. After that, the stay was mostly awful. The room was noisy, heavily worn and damaged, with dust built up on the radiator and all around the room. The bath tap kept leaking and dripping. People in the rooms next door argued, and we could hear everything, while staff did nothing to quiet them down. The rooftop smoking area is just a roof with an old fence around it, and it's falling apart. We went to the pub downstairs, where a woman behind the bar seemed lost. We ordered a double spiced rum and Coke but got Southern Comfort, with four shots instead of two, making the drink unbearable. Outside, a man who seemed to be on drugs told us he'd just got out of prison and kept prying into our lives, asking a lot of questions even though we showed no interest. It felt like he was digging for something. The pub then blasted music despite having only four people there. After finishing our terrible drinks and getting away from him, we went back to our room, but could still hear the music, even though there were then only three people in the pub, including the barmaid. I wonder when this place last had a health and safety inspection. I doubt it would pass. The hotel needs a lot of work, and the bar staff need to be spoken to about their service. For the price, I'd put another £10-£20 towards somewhere much better.

The location is handy for getting around the island, and the spa could be useful if the weather turns bad. We were above the bar on karaoke night, though, and the place wasn't even full, so it was a shame how noisy it was. Cleanliness was a problem. The beds were very worn, and I worried a spring might snap or worse. You'll want flipflops for the bedroom and shower room. We didn't try the food. It could be a really nice place, but we're not going back, as other guests also said it had potential without sounding eager to return.
This was the worst hotel I've stayed in. The room was filthy: the sink was broken and glued together, the bin was rusty, the shower dirty and barely trickling with no water pressure. The floors were dirty, with cobwebs and all sorts of hair, and the bedroom carpet had loads of stains. The bed base was torn and stained too. The kettle had so much limescale that it kept coming out when we boiled water, so we couldn't even make tea. A flashing pedestrian light outside shone through the curtains and made sleep impossible. We were still expecting a spa hotel based on the Booking.com website, but the spa and jacuzzi weren't working. We hadn't been told at booking or afterwards, even though they had apparently been broken for several days. We didn't get the pass we'd asked for, and people who did get one had to ask staff to let them in. Very disappointing and misleading. When we complained, the receptionist said they could only leave a message for the manager. Nobody spoke to us, and it was too late to book somewhere else. Bleach water doesn't make a place clean. The food was awful, the coffee was cold, and we had to get our own cutlery because none was on the table. I don't recommend eating there. The staff and service were even worse. This nasty, dirty hotel needs to close and be rebuilt. Don't waste your money.
The room was a good size and comfortable, and the place was okay. The staff are friendly, though not always easy to find. The food was nice, but took a while; I wasn't in a hurry, so that suited me.
Ants were crawling over the food, jam and butter stored under the tables while I was making toast, and that finished off what little appetite I had. I left hungry, which was especially disappointing because I love my food. Breakfast was supposed to come with the room, and the evening before I’d been told they could open at 7:00 after I asked about an earlier breakfast. But when I came down, the eating area was locked and empty, so I waited in my car until 7:10. A different gentleman then said breakfast was at 7:30. When I explained what I’d arranged, he said I could wait for a cooked breakfast. The man from the night before came in, and when I asked why the message hadn’t been passed on, he said he had passed it on but the kitchen and cookers weren’t open. He offered cereal and bread instead. The room was a shambles, with a carpet that looked as if it had never been vacuumed, dirt on the walls and unpainted patches from DIY work. The decor was shameful. I was also bitten several times on my body by some kind of creature in the property. I stayed one night and was so glad it was only one. I’ll never stay there or waste my money on the place again. They need new management and £50k spent on refurbishing it, otherwise they should bulldoze it.
