Mercure Sheffield Parkway Hotel

My first stay here and I came away really happy. The staff were super friendly and made us feel welcome. The room was nice, with a comfy bed and pillows. We rested well, and the food was yummy!

Never again. The photos made it look clean and nice, but the bathroom smelled strongly of bleach, so I couldn’t use it. The heating and air-conditioning unit made me wheeze, so I switched it off. These units can harbour mould particles over time and need regular cleaning, and clearly that isn’t happening here. The bed wasn’t secure and shot sideways when I got in. Breakfast was dry, and the staff were nowhere to be seen. A very strange experience, definitely not for me.

The hotel itself is lovely, but there’s an industrial warehouse behind it making noise all night. If you want quality sleep, I’m afraid this is a definite no. Everything else was lovely.

The food was substandard, and management handled my complaint just as poorly. For future events, I’d strongly advise telling guests in advance if the kitchen will close early. Nobody mentioned it at check-in or when I ordered dinner. My meal had clearly been forgotten, and when it finally arrived it was dry from sitting under a heater. After all the long waits, they then treated me as if I was the problem.
