A great pub, with a nice mix of old-school landlord atmosphere and a newer craft beer feel. There's a strong beer selection, including plenty from local producers, plus lots of gluten-free and low-alcohol choices. The food suits the place really well. They run events through the year, so keep an eye out, and they're even open on Mondays, which is rare these days. Highly recommend.

The old building has its quirks, but we found it comfortable for our couple of nights visiting family nearby. Our room was a decent size, with a comfy bed and a good en suite. We could hear some noise from the bar downstairs, though it had quietened down by about 10pm. The staff were really lovely, and the bar had decent wine. It's well placed for getting around, and the nearby car park was £10 for 24 hours through the NCP app, which seemed very reasonable to us.

Had a great meal with friends for a fair price. The staff were friendly, and told us the meat is all sourced locally. Best gourmet pub food in town! I'll be trying their sister pub, the coach and horses, soon.

I stopped in to warm up and have a drink while sightseeing in Shrewsbury. I wasn't looking for a full meal, just something to tide me over until dinner. I had a few cups of mulled wine with a small fruit pie, and bought a bag of crisps. It was quiet in the bar, with classic rock playing in the background, and the staff were really nice and chatty. A great place to get out of the cold.

I had the salmon and cod fish cakes for lunch, with pineapple and chilli salsa, and really enjoyed them. There's a good range of beers, including three real ales. The one I tried was excellent, and service was friendly. Dogs are welcome in the bar, where you can eat, as well as in the restaurant. I wasn't staying at the hotel, so can't comment on the rooms.
