Prince Rupert Hotel

The front office manager was staggeringly rude when I said I couldn’t sleep. He flat-out refused to help, offered no solutions and wouldn’t even consider moving me to a quieter room. It felt like once they had my money, they didn’t care whether I got the rest I’d paid for. The room felt like it was inside the pub next door. The windows did nothing to block the relentless thumping music or the literal screaming of drunk people outside, and the walls seemed paper-thin with no sound insulation. The hotel calls this “character,” but that didn’t make the noise any easier to bear. I’m paying for booking at the Prince Rupert Hotel with a sleepless night, and I’d avoid the place at all costs. If you value sleep, your sanity or basic human decency from staff, don’t stay here. Infuriating experience. I’ll never make the mistake of returning.

The breakfast was delicious when I stayed on Tuesday morning, and the waitress was efficient and gave great service. I’ve been to this lovely hotel a couple of times, and the caring reception staff and lovely team deserve some praise. Thanks for a lovely stay, keep it up.

Breakfast was amazing, well done, kichen. The front-of-house staff were very polite, and the downstairs bar had a nice old look with big chairs, though it was missing only pipe and cigar smoke. The old hotel was lovely, but the rooms felt small for the price. The side drawer was broken, there was no toilet brush, and things were dusty. Still, we were only sleeping there for one night.

The staff were extremely welcoming, and the communal areas were comfortable. We had a fantastic three-night stay in late December 2025, and were upgraded to a characterful suite on arrival that showed off the charm of this historic building. Breakfast was excellent, with good ingredients and a mix of self-service and table service. We came by train, so didn’t use the parking. I’d seen reviews saying some areas looked tired or needed renovation, but personally I didn’t feel that was the case.
