I’ve taken years to write this, and I hope the place has changed hands. The building and grounds are lovely, but it wasn’t as clean as I’d expected. There were cobwebs, dust and dirty marks on the walls, plus loads of cobweb dust under the beds. The fridge had black mould. The white towels were grubby, sheets were stained, and the duvets and pillows need replacing because they were stained. The mattresses weren’t any better. If there’s a housekeeper, they need more time, really full time, to do a good job. For a place charging high end prices, the owner should take more pride in the business and pay closer attention to cleaning and washing bedding and towels. I also didn’t appreciate overhearing the owner make remarks about guests.

The rooms are really comfortable, clean and high spec, and the breakfast was excellent. It’s a fantastic place, just like the pictures, run by lovely people. I think my skylight didn’t have a blind, though, so it got light very early.

We sat by the pond watching the ducks and looking over the nearby farm, and the whole place felt so peaceful. The train tracks are close, but they didn’t bother us. My husband treated me to this stay for my 30th birthday and we had a wonderful time. The staff were welcoming and attentive, the cooked breakfast was delicious, and the breakfast setup was really cute. Our room was clean, comfortable and looked brand new. The attention to detail was spot on, and the check-in and check-out times were reasonable. We also went to Canterbury for the afternoon and evening, only another 25-30 minutes away. Thanks for making us feel so welcome. This place really is a little gem.

We made the most of the stream, having coffee while watching the trout and fox cubs. That really made our weekend. The room at Tonge Barn was spotless, fresh and like new, and the stay was very comfortable. We were in the area for a wedding and called ahead to ask about an early check-in. The lady couldn’t have been more helpful. Service was superb, and breakfast was delicious, especially the full English. The young lady who I think is the manager is a credit to the place. Thanks for making the stay so pleasant. I’d book Tonge Barn without hesitation if I needed to stay here again.
