We left a day early because the owner seemed to take issue with everything we did. The bedding smelled musty, and the room looked like it hadn’t changed since around 1971. We brought a new freestanding fan because we like air moving while we sleep, but were told we couldn’t use it because it wasn’t PAT tested. Hygiene standards need attention. We stay all over the country, and this was one of the worst places I’ve been. With so much competition nearby, I wouldn’t recommend it.

The room felt tacky, with beads stuck onto things, and both it and the shower were dirty. We had to buy cleaning wipes before using the toilet. When we came back after being out for the day, someone had been in to top up the tea supplies and make the bed. Nothing was missing, but I felt violated and was very disappointed. On arrival, a man greeted us with his urine leg bag showing. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The beach, town and bus station were all an easy walk away, and we had a spacious, clean and comfortable king-size room. Breakfast was a great English one. We enjoyed our short break, and Paul and Josie were a lovely couple. Hope to stay again sometime.

Paul and Josie made us feel like part of the family, and we’re definitely planning to return next year. For our anniversary weekend, they even gave us a card and a box of chocolates, which we really appreciated. They’re friendly hosts who go out of their way for guests. Our king-size room had the comfortable bed and facilities we wanted, and breakfast set us up for the day. This was our second stay at Whiteways Hotel. Even Gabby, their lovely little dog, came over to sit with us for a cuddle. Thanks, Paul and Josie. Kath and Frank from Manchester
