Katie in the bar restaurant made this our favourite Premier Inn stay yet. Her funny, personal way of looking after people was brilliant, and the other guests were saying it was the best Premier Inn too. The location was handy for Dearne Valley RSPB country park, and all the staff were helpful throughout. Nothing felt like too much trouble.

The room was lovely and warm, and the Plus room was worth the extra cost. We ate well at the “social” the night before, and the hotel stayed really quiet even though it was very full. Paul, the manager, went out of his way to help. He handled guests insisting on free breakfast despite not having paid, then even shared some hot chocolate from his own stash with me. Big thanks to all the staff.

I’m basing this on what happened to me. If you’re a contractor, be careful with your van, it’s at risk of being stolen. Mine was taken, and the police in that area didn’t seem to care. Luckily, I had my AirPods in it and managed to recover the van, but all my tools were gone. That cost me £5,000, so I’ve rated the place very poorly.

We’ve stayed at this Premier Inn several times and have generally liked it. The restaurant has been replaced by Premium rooms, with a smaller place for breakfast and evening meals. It’s fine for a quick bite and serves a hearty breakfast. The main problem was the heating in our Premium room. It was only 12 degrees and didn’t warm up after an hour, despite us turning the heating on. The room itself was nicely furnished. Staff did everything they could, and we eventually moved to an older room that was lovely and warm.

We got in at 10.30pm on our way to Sunderland, and the receptionist was so welcoming. She even switched the bar lights back on so we could have a quick drink before bed. Nothing was a bother, and we felt really welcome. Would definitely stay again.
