Moxy Southampton

At around midnight in the hotel bar, someone in our group briefly did a harmless dance move that didn't disrupt anyone. Bar staff came over aggressively and threatened to remove us from the hotel. They then accused the customer of swearing at them, which simply hadn't happened. Other guests saw the exchange and could tell there'd been no abusive language. Even when challenged, staff stuck to that version of events. It was embarrassing and uncomfortable, and felt like deliberate gaslighting. Being threatened with removal at midnight over allegations that weren't true was completely unacceptable. The handling showed little professionalism, respect or skill at calming things down. The hotel itself may be fine, but this incident seriously affected our stay. Management should review staff conduct and training. No guest should be treated this way over false accusations.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were polite. Breakfast was decent. The room got far too hot even in winter, so I asked for a fan and one was provided. I was also told to open the window, but with the traffic noise outside, you can't leave it open all the time.

The room heating couldn't be adjusted and it was far too hot. The free welcome cocktail was very sweet, like squash, so I'd skip it next time. We liked the trendy feel despite being an older couple, and played games after our evening out. Breakfast was great, although the coffee tasted a bit bland.

It's a convenient central base in Southampton, near West Quay shopping centre, the train station and the docks. The staff were friendly, and reception, bar and lounge are nicely arranged and decorated. Our room was clean, modern and well laid out, with a very comfortable bed, though some renovation may be needed. In winter the air-conditioning is switched off, leaving only heating. Even with the heating off, the room stayed at 26 degrees. Opening the window was the only way to cool it, but the central location meant dealing with noise and pollution, and sleeping in the room was uncomfortable.
