The Bold Hotel, BW Signature Collection

Room 23 at the Bold was spacious and spotless, with a really comfortable bed, blackout curtains and a great shower. The receptionist was friendly, knowledgeable and professional, which made a lovely first impression. I enjoyed my one-night stay, and the location is great. For a night costing over £100, the in-room drinks were disappointing. The tray had four PG tips teabags, two Nescafé instant coffee sachets and a few sugars. A wider tea choice, perhaps chamomile or peppermint, or some fresh coffee bags, would have felt more thoughtful and homely. There was no complimentary mineral or sparkling water in the mini fridge either. It wouldn't stop me recommending the place, but I wish they'd be less stingy with the drinks.

The prices were unbelievably good, and the stylish rooms were comfortable, even if they weren't huge. Each one has a fridge. Downstairs, the bar is very stylish too and has a good beer selection. The staff were really friendly. I didn't try the food, though it looked good. I stayed while working in Ormskirk and would highly recommend it.

The carvery was great, and the staff were welcoming and clearly well trained. We came in for drinks and the carvery over Christmas, our first visit, and liked the feel of the place. It's dog friendly too, so Dodger says thanks for the doggy bag he enjoyed later that evening.

We were treated like queens for my sister's 75th birthday, and the staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Howard on reception deserves a special mention. He was lovely, helpful and really knowledgeable, and moved us to a lower floor because the stairs were difficult for us. Every hotel should have a Howard.
