I cancelled the booking and won't stay here. The call with Jean was rude from the start, and she didn't apologize or try to help. I was booking a superior room for my husband's birthday through booking.com, where it said the hotel was dog friendly. A few days later, someone told me they only had about five dog-friendly rooms, but booking.com hadn't mentioned that. When I called the hotel, Jean said they don't write on booking.com and that dogs weren't allowed in the room I'd booked. She said there was a dog-friendly double room at the same price. That made no sense to me: the superior room was costing me 144, and she wanted the same for a double. Her manner is why I cancelled, and I'm glad I won't be going.

The location was great, the hotel was quiet all night, and Jo was lovely. She rearranged our stay because of illness and kindly upgraded our room, which had a lovely view. The young man who'd just started in the restaurant also handled our concerns very well. There were some problems with the food: our meal arrived lukewarm and seemed to have been standing for a while, so we sent it back. Breakfast was lukewarm too. We were only given one bath towel and had to ask for another. And a final shout-out to the thoughtless idiot, keeping it polite, in the white SUV. They parked so close to our car that my husband couldn't get in, despite plenty of spaces being available. They could clearly see our blue badge, which wasn't just for decoration. My husband isn't well, and that stunt didn't help. How they got out is beyond me.

The location is ideal, and the superior double room on floor 4 was very nice and quiet. I'd recommend that room to anyone. The bar staff were extremely rude. Maybe it's a lack of training, maybe just bad manners, but either way, I wouldn't visit this bar again.

The room was clean, comfortable and very good, with a good view. A nearby building site could change that view for better or worse in the foreseeable future. It's a good hotel on the waterfront rather than the seafront. The town seems to have shifted its focus away from the sea and towards the old town and waterway.

The staff made this a five-star venue for a work function. Reception were polite, courteous and engaging, welcomed us, explained how to validate the parking and directed us to the function room. It's on the same floor, beyond the restaurant, is accessible, and has a sound system everyone could hear. The views from the room were great. My only criticism was that there were no smaller screens for people sitting farther back, though perhaps that option just wasn't available that day. We visited on 06/03/2026 for an event with work. Parking was easy once we knew where to look: there's a car park under the rear of the hotel, though that's not clear when you first look at the venue. You can validate parking on the reception desk touch screens. If that car park is full or unavailable, there's an adjacent car park with good 24-hour rates, plus nearby on-street pay-and-display spaces patrolled by a warden. The tea, coffee and pastries at break time were lovely. The lunch buffet had a limited selection, but attendees enjoyed it. Some key faith-related dietary options weren't listed on the card, but the staff in that area were very helpful and checked which dishes were suitable.
