The gardens are beautifully kept and lead down to an amazing stream. The hotel grounds feel like something from a storybook. This was the best part of our trip to Scotland, with friendly, accommodating staff throughout. Joseph, their bartender, might be the best in Scotland. He took time to teach us about Scottish whiskies and made what would have been a standard flight tasting into a whole experience.

We spent two nights in the little cottages while visiting St. Andrews. Waking up to birdsong was lovely, and we enjoyed the breakfast. The bar had a great selection, and we were very happy with the dinner we had there once. The staff and facilities were top notch.

The first room smelled of weed, and although they moved us to a better room with a garden view, it still wasn’t what I’d expect from a hotel. Breakfast was slow on the first morning: we had to wait for a seat, then were told they were too busy to make a latte and offered instant coffee instead. I did manage to get a latte later. I wouldn’t hurry back, as there are probably better choices in St Andrew’s.

We held our golden wedding anniversary tea yesterday, and everyone had a memorable day. The setting was wonderful, the tea met the usual high standard, and the staff did an exemplary job of looking after everyone’s needs. A huge thank you to the whole team.

The bathroom was lovely, but the cottage pillows were horribly uncomfortable and the furniture had seen better days. It’s expensive, and what you get doesn’t feel worth what you pay. Our two-day trip ended on the same note as the coffee this morning: instant coffee in a pot, and foul. It all could have been so much better.
