We picked The Seacote Hotel for two nights using a fantastic wowcher offer, and the location was ideal for a quiet coastal break. St Bees is peaceful and quaint, with easy car access, and it worked well as a base for trips further into the Lakes. Our dog enjoyed the stay too. The staff were kind, friendly and helpful throughout. The room was cleaned to a high standard, and after a full day hiking, the warm shower with great water pressure was much appreciated. Breakfast was fresh and cooked to order, with attentive service. Dinner was less of a hit for us given the price. The menu changes regularly, so it may depend on what’s being served and your tastes. The decor in the room and the wider building is quite old fashioned, so bear that in mind if appearance matters to you. For what we paid, though, the service, room and location were top tier. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and highly recommend it.

We only stopped in for lunch while visiting St Bees, but we’d definitely consider staying overnight in the future. It was February and the hotel was quiet, with a cosy feel. Everything looked very clean and recently refurbished. The staff were really helpful, and lunch was delicious and well cooked. The chips were perfect.

The views from the room were lovely, and the bathroom and room were spotless. We ate at the hotel every evening and enjoyed the food. Most of the staff serving us were lovely, though one person behind the bar came across as frosty compared with the others. The welcome for our dog was thoughtful. The receptionist gave us a blanket and bowls, plus a small pack with poo bags and dog biscuits. She was also helpful when I mentioned the lift was broken. My wife had recently had knee surgery, and the stairs were a nuisance. The receptionist offered to move us to a lower floor the next day, but we stayed in the room we’d been given. We’ve stayed here before and really liked it, but this room was smaller than our last one. It had plenty of drawers for T-shirts and underwear, but no wardrobe and only four hangers for two people, which wasn’t enough. The wall beside the window needed attention, with plaster coming off near the window. That should have been dealt with before the room was let. We’d come back, and hope to get a better room next time.

The staff handled a problem with our room quickly. Early on the second morning, the radiator started making noise and woke me. I told the receptionist and asked to move, and she had us settled into another room within about 15 minutes. We had a peaceful second night and morning. This was my second visit, and we ate in the bar both nights and had breakfast each morning. The food and service were faultless. The location and views are amazing, and I’ll definitely return on my next trip to the UK. I think you find out how good a place is when something goes wrong and see how they respond. Great place, highly recommended.

The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. We had a lovely day at the hotel over the long weekend, with delicious food and really friendly staff.
