There was no hot water in the shower the next morning, and I couldn’t find any staff to help. That followed a freezing night in a very dated room, where the radiator didn’t work and I had to go out late to buy extra layers. Check-in was badly managed too, with no reception desk or basic information about the amenities. The mattress was uncomfortable and I could feel the springs. The bathroom smelled strongly of sewage, the shower was tiny, and the old windows let in noise and cold air. The hallways smelled of smoke, and there was no lift despite several flights of stairs to the rooms. After sleeping badly in the cold, I felt unwell and it affected my work the next day. I stayed at The Highlands Inn for one night in January, and it was far below what I’d expect from a 3-star hotel and very poor value. I contacted the hotel about these problems and asked for a refund, but got no reply. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

I stayed a couple of nights. The place was clean and tidy, and everyone was friendly. There wasn’t any food available, though they said I could order in and eat there. The language can get a bit choice if you’ve got young kids.

The staff were brilliant, really friendly, helpful and accommodating. Our rooms were spotless, and the modern shower had good pressure and temperature. Thank you!

For a simple one-night stopover with modest expectations, it was fine. Room #8 was bright and airy with fantastic views, and the bed was very comfortable. The room itself was basic, with a few cracks in the walls. They hadn’t received their towel delivery that day, so we were given a couple of hand towels instead of bath towels. The shower had quite a bit of mould, and its wall holder was broken, so you had to hold the shower head yourself. There was also a drain smell in the bathroom. Downstairs there’s a bar with friendly staff. Parking was okay in the residential area, with no permits or pay stations.

A characterful room with lovely vintage features. They supplied a kettle and drinks, though the mattress could do with an update.
