Great St Helen Hotel

There aren't breakfast facilities, but that was easy enough to manage with the coffee shops and cafes nearby. The rooms are on the small side, though clean and well designed, and the hotel is handy for Liverpool Street Station in the middle of the City. London Bridge is a little farther away. City Airport is about a five-minute walk to the DLR connection, then roughly 20 minutes by train. For a little hotel, it's a great spot.

The room was tiny and smelled of Marijuana, and the staff were no help at all. We booked through booking.com, but when we arrived they'd assigned us a different room. We asked for the one we'd reserved and were made to pay an extra £30, which was even more than the price advertised on the hotel's website. It was midnight, and they wouldn't refund us, so we felt we had no choice but to pay. They've ignored our emails since. I wouldn't return or recommend staying here. London has plenty of better places at the same price.

The location is good, but I didn't feel it justified the price. There's no breakfast, the rooms are very small, and noise from outside came through because the rooms are poorly insulated. Reception staff weren't especially welcoming either, and the lock on my room was faulty. I'd choose somewhere else.

For what we paid, it was just right for a short stay. The room was a little small, but tidy and clean, with everything we needed. The shower and toilet were clean too, and there were facilities for making tea and coffee.
