Premier Inn Burton On Trent Central

The beds really are fabulous, which is one good thing about Premier for me. I usually avoid staying there because you can't open the windows for fresh air. Our room was cold because the thermostat wasn't working. I told a staff member, who pressed a button behind them and got it going, but that didn't last long. Some staff training seems needed. The work next door didn't cause any problems.

The buffet breakfast was tasty and good value, and having a supermarket nearby was convenient. We found the room comfortable and spotlessly clean, and the staff were welcoming when we arrived. Looking forward to coming back.

The room was in excellent shape and clean, with a proper bath, plenty of hot water and good pressure. The bed was comfortable, the pillows plump, and the sheets clean and good quality. Staff were friendly and smiling, and there's an adequately sized car park. Morrisons is right across the road, handy for snacks and water. This is a standard Premier Inn on the edge of Burton on Trent, beside a very busy road. Loud cars, presumably with modified exhausts, kept whizzing past for much of the evening, along with emergency vehicles with sirens. I thought the pub and restaurant next door was closed because its branding had been taken down, but hotel desk staff told me it serves dinner and breakfast as part of the hotel. I didn't go in, so can't comment on it. Some shared areas looked pretty dirty. There was quite a lot of visible mess in and around the lift carpets, though it may have been left by a guest. The lobby and corridors were clean and tidy. You'll probably need to drive or take a taxi to town, unless you're happy with a long walk along busy industrial roads. For a local hotel with easy parking, you could do worse. I've stayed in much worse places in this chain.

The location is quite good, with the Morrisons superstore, petrol station and conveniently placed McDonalds nearby. That helps, as the hotel food I've seen looked terrible. The check-in was a very odd and unsettling experience. A man was booking us in while laughing and talking with four other employees. After we got our card and went to the room, the same man walked straight in about five minutes later, without knocking or warning, saying he thought it was empty. Obviously, I was already in there. As a woman, I felt quite unsafe about being checked in by him and then having him enter the room moments later. I won't bother with breakfast, especially after seeing other reviews. The room looked clean at first, but when I checked more closely there were wrappers under the single bed. I expected at least for those to be picked up.
