The pies were the highlight: we had fish pie, steak and ale pie, and lamb henry, and all three were superb. It’s a lovely, welcoming pub in the South Lakes, just right for relaxing after a day of walking. The food was well cooked and the service was lovely too. They even let our friend try some local beers. My only small criticism is that a few more greens on the side would’ve been nice.

The staff were lovely and the service was good, as usual. We come to the Lakes regularly and always enjoy eating at this pub, though our recent visit was a little disappointing. Three of us ordered the fish pie. It tasted good, but looked rather plain and pale. A light dusting of cheese, browned under the grill, and a sprig of parsley would’ve made it more appetising. I hope the chef takes that as constructive criticism.

The pub has a warm, inviting feel, with a cosy fire and a good range of drinks, and the restaurant served some of the best pub food I’ve had so far. The local lamb, fish pie, and bread pudding were all lovely, and breakfast was just right too. I hadn’t expected to find such a great value inn in the heart of the small village of Staveley, right at the gateway to the Southern Lakes. It’s a handy base for exploring, with beautiful hikes on the doorstep. The rooms are cosy, tastefully decorated, and well equipped, which made for a comfortable rest after full days in the mountains. The staff were friendly and helpful. I’d highly recommend it and can’t wait to come back.

The room was the nicest we’ve stayed in for ages, and everything was super clean. I was here for a night while attending a navigation course with Lakes Outdoor Experience. It’s a real gem, with a fantastic pub, excellent staff, and fantastic food. Well done to everyone there. We’d highly recommend it.

After a long walk in this lovely, quiet part of Cumbria, this is just the sort of place you want to find. The pub is lovely and cosy, thanks in part to the largest log fire I’ve ever seen. The cask ale was good too. Our Walking Group will definitely visit again when we return.
