Metro Inns Teesside

At £8 each, it was incredible value for the one night we needed. We were woken in the middle of the night by people shouting at each other, though, and I'm not sure I'd want to stay longer. The rooms are very basic, just as expected, but clean and tidy. The communal kitchen is a bonus, although it was missing some things we needed and some dishes hadn't been washed properly, so it won't suit everyone who wants to cook. The toilets were fine and functional, and we chose to skip the shower. If you're fussy, this probably isn't for you. We were happy enough with simple things like a kettle in the room and clean towels.

The staff were nice, and there was a cute cat at reception. I enjoyed my stay. It's a one-star place, and it does that job well: cheap, with clean, well-maintained rooms that make good use of the space. There's a proper kitchen guests can use for free. Bathrooms and showers are shared, but I had no trouble with queues. There aren't many sockets, and the free WiFi was slow and temperamental. You get what you pay for.

The crane driver working the reception desk was more than helpful, and we had an excellent conversation. Parking was ample and secure. The room was a good size with a sizeable TV, and the bed was comfortable enough for the price. The shared bathrooms were small, but nice and clean. Very cheap accommodation.

The garden's water feature and flowers in pots and baskets were a nice touch, and the staff and manager were very nice. They said they're improving the hotel with new facilities. My room was clean and quiet, with a large TV, sink, big mirror and kettle. Free parking in the car park was handy. Toilets and showers are a few metres down the corridor rather than in the room, so bring a dressing gown.
