The Tawny Owl

We booked four rooms for a family wedding, with both adults and children, and had a fabulous stay. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and had everything we needed, including plenty of hot drinks, an iron, and a hairdryer. The staff who checked us in were friendly and attentive, and we had a great evening. Breakfast had lots of choice, from sweet pancakes to a full English. Great value for money.

We celebrated a 21st birthday in the Parliament Room at The Tawny, and the lovely setting made it feel special. The food was first class and the service was faultless. The team were helpful and attentive throughout, and went out of their way to make sure nothing was too much trouble. We had a brilliant time and would highly recommend it as a venue.

I stayed in room 1 Peacock on 27th October 2025. It looked spotless and lovely at first, though the Bar Manager struggled to open the door. When I returned at 9.30pm, I couldn't get in. I had to find another bar maid, who fiddled with the door for a while before managing to open it. Once inside, I found the kettle stained black. The duvet cover had a dirty mark, and the duvet was so thin it felt like a sheet. I was cold enough to put my coat over myself. The sink was cracked and only one tap worked. The bathroom was worse. The bath panelling was black with mould and disgusting, partly hidden by a grey bin. The shower door seal was rotten, split, shredded and mouldy. I was exhausted and just wanted to sleep. I couldn't close the rotten bathroom windows either. It was shabby, dirty and mouldy, a complete disaster. I had planned to have breakfast, but didn't want to, and I didn't want to stay another night. The Manager wasn't there when I left, so I handed my key to a cleaner. The staff were polite, that's all I can say. I wouldn't recommend The Tawney Owl to my worst enemy. I intend to take this further. What a dump. Please don't go there.

The events room was spotless, with white tablecloths provided, and the buffet was just right. I hired it for a baby shower, and lots of people told me they enjoyed the food. The staff were really helpful. Thanks for making the day so special. I'd highly recommend the Tawny Owl.
