Dinner was a highlight: the lamb shank in red wine was so tender it came off the bone, and the homemade sweets were delicious. We also loved the view across the loch, and our room was clean and tidy. Duncan, the manager, welcomed us warmly when we arrived. The team is small, as many in hospitality are struggling to find staff, but they worked hard, stayed cheerful and looked after us really well throughout. We had an excellent stay, and can see Duncan and his team making this the hotel to stay at.

Duncan was such a pleasant, helpful manager, ready to help with pretty much anything. The place is very remote, but lovely. Both supper and breakfast were high quality, and I’d definitely stay again.

Room 12 had a lovely, very comfortable four-poster bed, and the room was traditionally decorated and spotless. The views across the loch were stunning. It’s a lovely hotel in an absolutely wonderful setting, with great food and staff who were really friendly and accommodating. I’d highly recommend it.

The views and location were the real draw for us. We stayed in the four-poster room, where you could take in the lake from the bed or from chairs by the window. We also enjoyed a drink at the garden tables, then dinner in the dining room overlooking the water. I’d seen some very mixed, often negative reviews and wasn’t sure what to expect, but I came away pleasantly surprised. The burger was tasty and filling at £16.50, which seemed fair. Breakfast was a really good full Scottish, with eggs Benedict and Florentine among the other choices. There weren’t any cereals, but I didn’t feel they were needed. The staff were friendly and service was quick. Some parts of the building look a bit faded. It must be expensive to maintain a place this old in such a remote spot, though it was generally well presented. Accommodation in this area is costly and hard to find, so the price seemed reasonable to me given where it is.

The rooms are a little dated, but the location is unreal, the food was excellent, and the service was impeccable. That burger was one of the best I’ve tried. We had a wonderful time here celebrating our engagement. Even though we booked at the very last minute, the guys fitted us in and made the whole stay relaxing and enjoyable. The two guys running the place are clearly working very hard. I hope their new venture is a roaring success. Book it now! Xx
