International Hotel

For the price, I definitely recommend this hotel. The room was lovely and spotlessly clean, and the staff were excellent. Ryan and the breakfast team kept everything topped up, and I was pleased to find some hot items available when I’d only expected a continental breakfast. Great value.

The location is great for the International centre. The room was basic but clean, and the shower was large and had lovely strong pressure. There was no air-conditioning or heating because of the work going on. Breakfast disappointed me. I was told there were no sausages, but later found out I had to ask for them. I thought that was what I was doing when I asked where the sausages were. The bar was very overpriced and only had bottled beer. The hotel next door had a better selection, but was also very overpriced. Drinks don’t need to cost so much. People might drink more and spend more if prices were reasonable.

The room was clean enough, but tired, and at £160 a night this place was nowhere near up to scratch. My floor was being worked on, so it looked like a building site, with floor coverings and no ceiling. Reception didn’t mention this at check-in. The AC was rattling loudly as soon as I entered the room. When I tried to switch it off at the wall panel, the panel fell off. Reception then told me only they could turn it off. At 2am, a lorry loading at the international centre next door woke me. The noise carried through the room’s thin windows. Breakfast was my biggest disappointment. It starts at 6:30am, but the scrambled powdered eggs had already been sitting there for three hours by the time I got to them. They were the worst I’ve ever had. There was sad-looking bacon, beans, and a meat-free sausage cooked to order, plus dry bread and a poor pastry selection. The continental station had one slice of ham, tinned fruit, a couple of salami slices, a small bowl of dried-out cucumber and tomato, and some yoghurt. Cheese was listed on the menu, but they’d run out and had no idea when it would be back. Save your money for a premier inn.

The rooms were pretty standard and the hotel was fine, but the refurbishments made the place dusty. We hadn’t been told about the work when we booked. Breakfast was disappointing too, with little choice: bacon, beans, and what I suspect was powdered egg, along with cereal and pastries that weren’t great quality. I wouldn’t return.
