I stayed here for one night on a Sunday and got a room for £24.99, a bargain. After checking out on Monday, I headed to Aylesbury’s old market centre before returning to London. I’d picked this place so I could see Thame’s old market town centre, Thame Museum and St Mary's church. Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees once lived in Thame, not far from the church. The Travelodge sits in a 24-hour Esso service area, with a drive-thru Burger King, Subway, drive-thru Starbucks, Gregg's and a small Asda Express. There’s plenty nearby for coffee or an evening meal without going into town. It’s a single-storey hotel that reminded me of the early Travelodge days. Parking is free for guests, first come, first served. The guy at the desk was really helpful, and check-in was quick. My room was clean, tidy and spacious, though a little sparse. There was just one chair, which was fine for me, but with two people one of you would have to sit on the bed. The hotel’s rooms are getting a new design, but that hadn’t happened yet when I visited. The receptionist said it was due soon. The room had what I’d expect from a Travelodge: tea and coffee, a TV, soft white towels, a comfy bed with nice pillows, space beside the bed to charge my phone, and good lighting. After checking in, I walked around town to see the places I’d mentioned, then stopped at the Six Bells, a 16th-Century pub, for a rest and some nice Fuller's beers. It’s a handy base for Thame and Oxford, and maybe Bicester shopping village too. Hope this helps if you’re planning to explore the area. Thanks, H.

I was nervous about checking in because I’d booked without reading the reviews. The room was really clean, and the sheets seemed fine. The bathroom was the letdown. Its floor looked filthy, especially by the toilet, and there was a horrible smell. With the door shut we could manage it, but we forgot overnight and the whole room stank in the morning. There was no soap in the shower and no hot water at 8am. The girl at reception let me use the only other free room, luckily with hot water. Otherwise I’d have felt grubby all day after a night in that stinking room. We didn’t see any rats. We arrived at night, and there’s a small brook out back where they probably come from, drawn to Burger King and the services.

The staff were efficient and very helpful, and the rooms were a good standard. I enjoyed my stay and will probably come back in a few months. It’s especially convenient if you’re arriving by car, with fuel, an ASDA shop and Burger King close by.

The hallways smelled disgusting, the bathroom was mouldy, and I ended up covered in bites from bed bugs. Awful. I’d never stay at a Travelodge again.

I opened the curtains during the day and saw a rat running through the shrubs just outside the window. The corridors smelled stale, and the rooms were dated and not particularly nice. This hotel is vile. I won’t stay here again, and I’ll be reluctant to book a Travelodge in future.
