When I left my glasses behind on our recent visit, Jim at reception found them and kindly offered to post them to me. I needed them for an upcoming holiday, so I’d otherwise have had to manage without until our next visit. Three days later they arrived at my home, securely boxed and packaged. I really appreciate Jim going above and beyond. Thank you, Jim! The Golden Fleece really is a gem, with lovely staff, excellent food, and good value. My retired colleague and I live nearly 200 miles apart, so we meet for lunch here every 6-8 weeks, as The Golden Fleece Thirsk is roughly halfway between us. The delicious menu changes regularly, with lots of meals, light bites, and sandwiches at very reasonable prices. Service is excellent in the bar, side rooms, and restaurant. The waiting staff are very good, and we usually see the same waitress each visit. She’s lovely and always cheerful.

The dinner was clearly homemade with fresh ingredients, and it made us think we’ll have to come back just to stay again. We were here for a family visit and had a wonderful stay, without finding a single fault. Our modern room was beside the car park, stylishly decorated, and had all the facilities we needed. We left early and missed breakfast.

We had a lovely time and would come back for a drink, but not for a meal. The building is beautiful and the location is amazing, with a welcoming interior and plenty of period features. The staff were lovely and friendly. The food let the experience down. We were told it was the first day of the new menu, but what we ordered was underwhelming. The scotch egg starter was fab, while the hot smoked salmon had no horseradish at all. The mains were cooked well and tasty, but they were a hotdog and caesar salad, and felt unimaginative. The dishes seemed simple and similar to standard pub food. A menu that better suits the character and location of the hotel could make dining much better.

Kim looked after us so well when my husband and I had lunch here on the 25th of January. She was lovely, extremely helpful, knew the menus well, and gave us excellent service. The atmosphere was lovely too, and both the food and service were excellent. What a fantastic place. We’ll absolutely be back, thanks to her and the other staff.

They even brought us breakfast in bed! The restaurant food was delicious, and I’d highly recommend the scotch egg as a starter. Jim, the general manager, and his team were attentive and made the stay special from check-in to check-out. We stayed in the dick turpin suite for my wife's 40th birthday on Friday 23rd January. A beautiful hotel, and we’ll come back at some point. Thank you 😊
