Muthu Royal Thurso Hotel

The girls serving were lovely, though they seemed overworked by a lazy manager. When we asked to move for the second night, a woman on the evening desk found us a quieter room. The manager had been rude, uninterested and unhelpful. We'd had no sleep on night one: someone walked the hallway for much of the night and banged the fire door, and a couple of staff staying nearby had a full oud Nepalese argument with door slamming. We were there two nights. The room was basic, and the draughty window wouldn't close properly. It could be a lovely place if it were run properly.

The food was okay, though nothing special. It's a dated hotel with few modern conveniences and no lifts. Staff were okay, but if something wasn't working, you had to get the manager to fix it. Nobody else would.

The staff were pleasant and helpful, and the room was clean with a comfortable bed. It's just minutes from the beach and very reasonably priced. This quirky place in the centre of Thurso is old-fashioned and a bit faded, complete with tartan carpets. Read the other reviews if you want to be miserable.

Breakfast made up for quality with quantity! We stayed in a warm, comfortable three-man room with decent facilities, though they weren't the most modern. Amazing value and a great location. We skipped dinner at the hotel and went for a curry at T’s Cafe instead. You won't be disappointed.
