Mannings Hotel

The hotel has a free car park, bar, breakfast area and restaurant, and it’s right in central Truro near the Hall of Cornwall. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful. Our front-facing room could get a little noisy at night when pigeons sat on the window sills, but the location more than made up for that annoyance.

The staff at the Manning's Hotel were brilliant, and the beds were comfortable, but I wouldn’t return without some changes. The rooms need modernising, and the owners should install a lift. We were moved by the lovely receptionist from a room with a shower over the bath, which I disliked because of the curtain, to room 30 with a shower. There were lots and lots of stairs and no lift. I also think better breakfast options should be included in the price. The hotel feels like it’s trying to be five-star when it’s three-star at best. The loo roll was very cheap.

It used to be our choice for a nicer dinner out, but the place has gone downhill a lot. We couldn’t even pick how we wanted our steak cooked, it was medium rare or nothing, and the menu said so. I hope it improves, but this has put us off going back.

Our apartment was clean and lovely, and close to the town centre, but the room seemed much better suited to someone needing accessible facilities. The worktops were low, the shower was walk-in and wet-room style, and the toilet was comfort height. When booking, the pictures showed a bathroom with an actual bath. The bathroom we got was clean and nice, just not what we expected. The bar looked modern and welcoming, but the music felt more like a funeral home than a fancy bar, and the other guests had a rather judgy, toff-like look, with salmon-pink chinos and martinis. Back in our room, the bed was very, very comfy, but a nearby shop’s alarm blared for ages. That was almost preferable to the loud sex noises from the room above. At breakfast we were told that unless we wanted cereal, toast or fruit, we’d have to pay extra. We ended up going to Wetherspoons for a breakfast that was just as disappointing. All in all, we had a great time away, cheers mannings.
