Wakefield Cathedral was a lovely bonus to look out at, even in grey weather, and the hotel is handy for the city centre, about a 10-minute walk from the station. We found the room comfortable and had everything we needed for our one-night visit as a couple. Breakfast was hot, with lots of choice. The sausages and bacon were properly cooked, and the mug of Yorkshire tea was piping hot. For under £50 for a room and cooked breakfast for two, it was excellent value. Nothing to complain about. The reception team made this the friendliest Holiday Inn Express we’ve visited. They were warm, helpful and chatty throughout. It’s a straightforward, well-run place, and we wouldn’t hesitate to come back. On-site parking is limited, though there are several nearby car parks that are often cheaper and just as convenient. Southgate car park, just around the corner, is £6 for 24 hours.

Parking spaces are very limited, but if you manage to get one, overnight parking costs £7.50. The included breakfast was really nice, and our room was spacious and comfortable. Staff were happy to help with anything we asked for. We had a good stay over the festive period and would definitely stay there again.

The breakfast buffet had cereal, fruit and a full English, and it was really nice. Since the breakfast area is small, you have to book a time slot. The coffee machine was broken, which was my only complaint, but I made do with tea and fresh fruit juice instead. Our room felt fresh, comfortable and really nice, and the location was fantastic, just a two-minute walk from the bars and shops.

One guest had parked in a way that blocked our car, and we needed to leave early, so it was a serious problem for us. The staff quickly tracked down the car's owner, who was also staying at the hotel, and got it moved. We had a great stay in Wakefield, and the staff were particularly helpful. Thank you.

The free breakfast was very good, and the staff were really friendly. We paid £7 for 24 hours in the car park, which is less than I've paid elsewhere. Our room was clean, comfortable and good value. The Barbata Hepworth Gallery is close by and well worth a visit, especially on a cold, rainy day in February.
