Holiday Inn Express Birmingham

The wet-room shower was a real problem. Water ended up all over the floor, which was slippery and felt unsafe. The accessible room was OK for our one-night stay, and we didn't hear traffic. The hotel was spotless and the staff were lovely and helpful, especially Emma. Dinner was nice and breakfast was yummy.

We had a positive three-night stay, with comfortable rooms and great staff. The parking, though, is handled by Parkmaven, which I think is among the worst private parking companies. It has over 500 Trustpilot reviews, all one star. They issue tickets that they know are invalid, expecting most people to pay. Ours came from an American entering a zero instead of an O. None of the other hotels on our tour issued tickets, but both run by Parkmaven did. The hotel cancelled ours quickly, but we're still £70 out of pocket for the vehicle rental company's admin fees. It's a great hotel, but be VERY careful when parking there.

The breakfast was substantial and included in the room price, which was extremely reasonable. It's easy to reach from the motorway junction and there's free parking, making it handy for people travelling by car. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Our rooms were comfortable and clean, the bedsheets were good, and the bathroom was immaculate.

I didn't expect much, but this hotel on our ‘Go Holidays’ coach trip turned out to be a good surprise. The room was decent and the evening meal was great. I had a chicken Makhani that tasted like the real deal, while my wife had a lovely Lasagne. There was a great range of puds, and the apple crumble and custard was a winner. It's all home cooked by a chef who clearly understands food. The staff are friendly, work brilliantly together and are really ‘on it’. I'm genuinely impressed.
