The Watermans Arms

I stayed three times. The owner is very friendly, and although the pub itself had no food during those visits, the room was clean and tidy. The pub is okay. This might sound negative, but it isn’t meant that way. If you’re working nearby and want a clean, tidy room at the right price, it’s a good place to stay. I can’t fault it.

The atmosphere felt very unwelcoming. When I asked about a family lunch, after seeing food advertised outside, the owner more or less bit my head off. The graffiti on the roundabout outside and the overtly political notices around the front also make it feel hostile, a blemish on an otherwise beautiful town.

A great little pub, with a Thai food special. Sue and Tony deserve a special mention for being fantastic behind the bar. Thanks!

I booked a night away for an event, but when I arrived I was told the place was overbooked and that Booking.com would find us another hotel. I spent the whole day trying to sort out somewhere else, missed our event, and ended up paying £120 for another room. For the £65 room, they then tried to refund me just £2. He says his daughter handles everything, but she’s never in contact. He’s a charlatan. Avoid!
