The Rifle Volunteer

For an overnight budget stay, this is pretty much ideal. The bed was comfortable, the shower worked fine, the TV was good, and everything was clean and working. It was quiet despite being above a pub, and breakfast was very good. There’s no full English, which is fair enough at this price, but they do have hot eggs and a good continental spread. The room was fairly small and basic, but the price was very reasonable, especially with breakfast included. Recommended.

The staff and owner were absolutely fabulous, so friendly and kind, and the whole place had a relaxed atmosphere in a quiet location. It’s very close to amenities and public transport. We slept so well because the bed was incredibly comfortable. The room had the basics too, including tea and coffee, a kettle and an iron. Breakfast had plenty to choose from: cereal, toast, crumpets, fruit, eggs, cheese and ham. We loved staying here and would happily return next time we’re in the area. Highly recommend!

The owner was really nice and hospitable. He greeted us at the pub and made us feel very welcome. I stayed in the Nightingale Room for a work event, and it was clean and did the job well. It was a bit noisy at night, so I’d suggest bringing earplugs. Also, remember to bring your own hair dryer.

Good facilities all round for an overnight stay, and the location’s great. It’s a short walk into town, and there’s a country walk nearby too. I also had a 25-minute stroll to a friend’s party at Moles farm. Thanks. Perfect spot for drinks and bar food.
