A good choice for one night, and the new tenants were very helpful. The chicken was overcooked and chewy, though, and I didn't like having my tea in a plastic cup. The curtains are brand new but hung back to front. I also had to check my booking three times. Just saying. X

We came in with the family yesterday for a meal. Everyone enjoyed their food, which arrived piping hot. I had scampi and chips, Dad chose the piri piri spice onions and peppers topped chicken, and Mam had chicken breast with teriyaki rice. It was all delicious, and we'll definitely be back.

My husband booked two nights while working in Washington for three days, but after a stressful check-in he had to leave after just one night and book somewhere else. The doors were still locked after 4 p.m., the stated check-in time, and the listed phone number only said unavailable. He was out of pocket as a result. Reliable WiFi was essential for his work. The Victoria Inn advertises WiFi in all areas, but he couldn't get a signal in the room, bar or car park. He spoke to the young woman, the only staff member on site, but she seemed clueless and just shrugged, saying she couldn't do anything. She admitted the WiFi was almost nonexistent there. Food was also listed as available every night, but when he asked, it wasn't. He was sent to a fish and chip shop that was closed when he arrived. The room was adequate, but the mirror fell off the wall during the night.

There's a good range of beers, spirits and wines, and the pub serves nice food. Rooms upstairs can be booked, making it handy for people working away for a few days or a couple of weeks. Local stores are close by, and other bars and restaurants aren't far away either. They show live sports on TV, have live music at weekends and hold a pub quiz on Wednesdays.

The Saturday night live music is extremely loud. The stage is directly below the bedrooms, with no soundproofing at all, and you can hear every word of people's conversations between the deafening songs. Don't stay on a Saturday night. The hotel isn't great. It's recently been refurbished, but it's still very basic, with little service. For example, there were a few cheap shampoo packets and no soap in the dispensers. That might be acceptable if it weren't for the noise.
