We ended up staying for the live music, Halo, and enjoyed their whole performance. The musicians were excellent, a real surprise on a weekend visit to a village pub. Thanks to Jazz, the team, and Halo. We’d only popped in for a beer because we were staying nearby, but the kitchen smelled so good and the staff were so friendly that we booked Sunday lunch for the next day. We arrived a little early and had a fantastic meal: roast beef and roast pork, both superb, with great meat, roast potatoes, a selection of vegetables, and very good value.

The beef was probably one of the best pub-cooked portions I’ve had, served generously with tasty vegetables and potatoes, and very reasonably priced. Service was quick and kind, and the early signs were right: the food was excellent. After a soggy Sunday walk, we came to The Martlett Inn for the obligatory pub lunch. Friendly staff welcomed us into a cozy room full of cheerful people clearly there for a good pint and food. The atmosphere was lovely. I did wonder about the electric fake wood burner when there was also a real one in the middle of the room, but that’s their electricity usage, not my concern. Great service, delicious food, a nice setting, and a crisp pint.

We stayed in The Monument Room, a lovely, really comfortable space made up of two rooms, with a kitchenette. We ate at the pub and I’m not sure I can praise the food highly enough. We shared the cauliflower starter; I had the rich, delicious venison bourgignon, while my partner chose the pie of the week. And dessert was incredible, a chocolate and pistachio tart with berry coulis, one of the best I’ve had, and I’ve had a few. Breakfast the next morning was delicious too, and my flat white was just right. Would definitely come again and highly recommend.

For a family get-together of 21 at The Martlet, they did a brilliant job. The food was delicious, all served fresh and hot, and it came out promptly. The staff were great. We’d definitely recommend booking for a larger group and hope to come back next year. Thanks again!

Jazz and John were great hosts, and the food and our room were both great. Kate, who we met on the day we left, was very nice too. We need to visit CAVE again in March, so we’ll book another stay. This time, instead of two nights, we’ll make more of a holiday of it. Thanks for a great stay. X
