Best Western Welwyn Garden City Homestead Court

The suite was quiet, looked out over a park, and had a kitchenette. It was very good value, and there was lots of parking. We stayed three nights and booked just the room, without breakfast. There’s a decent pub nearby, so we didn’t use the hotel facilities. We didn’t meet any other guests.

The room was lovely, comfortable and quiet, and breakfast was cooked to order. Arrival was easy, and the front desk kindly helped with a booking change. Brilliant, nothing to fault.

The staff were rude and aggressive. I wouldn’t recommend anyone book this hotel.

The hotel was clean, with pretty gardens and pleasant outdoor areas, and the toilets were clean too. But the bar was a mess. It was small, generally dirty, and had piles of dirty glasses early in the evening. They seemed overwhelmed, and service took ages. Of the two men and two women there, only one or two of the men seemed to be serving. They looked grumpy and uninterested, were quite rude, and didn’t say please or thank you. The older one kept looking at the wall clock. When a customer asked the younger one what rums they had, he bluntly said he was serving someone else. The customer explained they weren’t trying to push in and just wanted to know what was available, but the server only shrugged at them. The “south coast” and “66” beers tasted the same, sour and strongly citrusy, and were very unpleasant. Guinness came in cans and was fizzed up on a vibrating plate. Drinks were generally overpriced. One guest was shocked to be told his medium size round with 5 tequila’s cost over £50. Many guests went to the off licence across the road because it was quicker and cheaper. After such a disappointing visit, I’m unlikely to recommend the hotel or return.
