Holiday Inn Leicester - Wigston

The room was clean and comfortable, and the restaurant service was good. But on arrival the TV remote was missing and the phone wasn’t plugged in, so we couldn’t ring reception. It was sorted out, though I didn’t want to spend 30 minutes going back and forth over it. I also hope they’ll serve actual apple juice at breakfast instead of that awful apple-flavoured water.

Free parking was a real plus, and being just outside the centre made getting around easier without dealing with city traffic. Reception welcomed us warmly and professionally. Our room was spacious, with clean, comfortable beds, and we appreciated the complimentary refreshments and bottled water. There were a few things that need attention: the nets were marked, the wardrobe had no hangers, and the chairs had obvious stains. When we switched on the air conditioning, it blew out dust, which was the biggest concern. Better cleaning and maintenance would make a real difference.

The dirty carpets were a problem too, but the worst part of our visit was what happened in the bar. A group of drunk men were allowed in and behaved badly toward the women with us, staring at them, trying to shake their hands and asking personal questions about their relationship status. We were keeping to ourselves, but they kept making unwanted approaches. Staff couldn’t get the situation under control. The manager was polite and apologized on their behalf, but the women felt extremely uncomfortable.

The service has always been better than good on the several times I’ve stayed here. Queen rooms are good, so I moved back to one after being given two singles pushed together in a booked king room. The sheet wasn’t wide enough either, and the bed was uncomfortable, so it was a disappointing room that didn’t feel king size at all. This time, two of the three rooms had bad smells, though I’m sure they’ll sort it out. Still a better than good hotel.
