Duthus Lodge

The bus stops are just a few metres from the front gate, making it easy to reach the city centre. This is a great value B&B, and I'd gladly return. The room was spacious, well appointed, and luxurious, with plenty of room to relax. Don't let the three-star rating put you off, it outdoes many five-star hotels in Scotland. My one complaint is that the room gets cold. The owners know and provide an extra heater, but on sub-zero nights you might need another blanket and to leave the bathroom door open so warmth can get in.

The airport bus and bus 31 stop right outside the hotel, with bus 31 going to the Scot Monument and the old town. David greeted us, had the room ready early even though I'd accidentally given a much later arrival time, and was friendly and helpful whenever we saw him. It felt like stepping into a cozy B&B from a Christmas movie. The room was warm and cozy, and the WiFi was the best I've had at any hotel this year. The shower was a bit tight, but that didn't bother us much. We'd definitely stay again.

Duthus is about 2 km from the centre, with a bus stop almost right outside. Walking in is easy and quick too. David runs the place with help from others, and he's extremely kind and helpful. He makes a good breakfast, and the service was excellent. Our room was just the right size, with a comfortable bed and pillows, plus a handy little fridge. Towels and toiletries were provided. Be sure to try the nearby Roseburn path, a lovely walk through the forest that leads to a retail park.

David really went out of his way to look after us. We stayed in a family room for two nights, with very good beds and an excellent renovated bathroom. Edinburgh was lovely too. The place is easy to get into the city from, with a bus right outside taking about five minutes, or a straightforward 40-minute walk. A good choice if you want to avoid the sky-high prices right in the city.
