The owner went out of his way when the WiFi failed during my Zoom meeting, lending me his own computer so I could lead my training. He also adapted the restaurant menu so I could have dinner that met my religious dietary requirements. Pauline at breakfast was really helpful, with tips on where to buy sandwiches and other things while travelling around. Management even boosted the WiFi strength while I was there, since that was the only issue I had. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the staff were amazing, friendly and helpful. Everything else was just perfect.

We stopped in for lunch. The starters, pâté and garlic mushrooms, were amazing, but the mains weren’t as good. The lasagne was burnt and the chicken didn’t have much flavour. We didn’t try dessert. There was also a cat wandering around the restaurant, and unfortunately I’m allergic to cats.

We stayed in late October while visiting the Lake District. The room was lovely and warm even with the heating off, and I liked the atmosphere, matching curtains and cushion covers, and amazing views. The staff were lovely, and we enjoyed seeing the hotel cat and the Highland cows. Breakfast was decent and included with the room. Dinner, which wasn’t included, exceeded our expectations. We had sirloin steak and lamb rump, and both were delicious. I’d highly recommend the restaurant and would likely return for dinner. There were a few downsides. We could smell cooking fumes in the upstairs bedrooms during breakfast and dinner, though the smell eventually cleared. The shower had plumbing problems and weak water pressure. A staff member kindly explained the issue before we got the room. We also found the main entrance hard to spot because a boxing event was going on when we arrived. Most signs directed people to the event entrance, including one on the main entrance door, so we missed it. The hotel is quite isolated from other towns and villages, so I assume you need a car to get there.

We went for a meal after other places nearby had turned us away because they weren’t serving food. The meal was lovely, and the dining room felt very high-class. We’d definitely go again.

The food was amazing, and the staff were so nice at my mam’s 93rd birthday party. It was a last-minute booking, but they went all out to make sure she had a wonderful time and memories to keep. What an amazing place.
