Winchester Royal Hotel

Breakfast was really good and nicely set out. I especially appreciated the cupboard that keeps the plates hot. Fried eggs on a cold plate are the worst. Our room had a nice garden view and felt quaint. The TVs were good, too. We had two, one in the lounge and one by the bedroom, synced together. There was also a handy phone charging pad. I'd definitely stay again.

I was here for work, and the calm, comfortable room and fast internet made it easy to work and join online meetings. I brought my dog and was glad to find a dog bed, water bowl, and a little treat waiting in the room. The hotel is in a handsome historic building in the middle of Winchester, with everything close by on foot. The train station is about a 7-8 minute walk away. The place is lovely and clearly well cared for: although the building is old, the rooms feel refreshed, were spotless, and had everything I needed. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful throughout. There is an open buffet breakfast in the morning. The restaurant costs extra and serves traditional British and pub style food. I particularly liked the garden restaurant area. I'd happily come back, and this would be my first choice if I return to Winchester.

The location is hard to beat, right in the centre of Winchester near the shops, restaurants, Cathedral, and cinema. I felt at home and relaxed here. The hotel itself is beautiful, and everything was spotlessly clean, including the carpets. The rooms had what I needed, with tea and coffee, towels, shampoo, and body wash. The cotton linen was high quality. Two pillows each would have been nice, though it wasn't essential. The staff made a real difference. Everyone was attentive, smiling, polite, and happy to help. Housekeepers were careful and respectful, and the bar staff were professional and fun. Breakfast had plenty of choice, and the coffee was excellent. We stayed in a Garden room, where the windows open partway with a catch. It was enough to get fresh air and avoid feeling boxed in. Parking costs extra, but the price is reasonable and the car park is secure. The signs aren't very clear, though, and a sign pointing from the upper car park to reception would help. I had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend it. Thanks to the staff.

Really well priced and homely, with a tremendous location. The staff were lovely and breakfast was solid. The Garden rooms felt the cleanest and freshest. They're basic but comfortable. The older rooms in the main building are a bit more worn.
