Holly Lodge Guest House

We had a great Valentine weekend, thanks for looking after us. The hotel was spotless, and the staff were lovely, taking time to chat and check that everything was okay. We'd happily stay again. Lake Windermere is 1.5 miles away, about a 20-minute downhill walk. We took an Uber back for £6. There are bars and restaurants within a five-minute walk, but for more choice, head into the Late Windermere area. Google Albert Pub, which is central to the bars and restaurants.

Free parking was a handy bonus, and we also had access to the pool, sauna and gym just five minutes away. The communication before and during our stay was really good, so we knew what we needed before arriving. Our room was spacious and very clean, with a nice bathroom and lovely shower. Breakfast was brilliant, with a good range to choose from, and everyone we spoke to on staff was so friendly and warm. A perfect base in the Lakes. We'd definitely come back!

We were really comfortable here, with a cosy room and a very comfortable bed. The location is spot on, right in town for restaurants and bars, and there are lovely walks nearby or a short drive away. Saturday breakfast was a letdown: my husband's full English was overcooked, and my porridge was basically raw oats in warm milk, nowhere near creamy. The next morning's crumpets and scrambled eggs were much better, so maybe the chef just had an off day. Still a lovely place and we'd return.

It was a short stay at Holly Lodge, but a really memorable one, especially as it was my first time in England. I hope I can visit Windermere again and stay here. The staff were friendly, and I loved breakfast. It was my first full English! I'm especially grateful to Kristy, who helped me call a taxi on my last day after my train was cancelled.
