Latimer House

We really enjoyed our night here and will certainly recommend it to others. The rooms had lovely attention to detail, and the bathroom was high quality too. There were parking spaces, which were brilliant to have, and the location is prime. A fantastic place, with a lovely host and very quick communication. See you again soon!

This return visit was a disappointment, which is a shame because the location is great. We stayed in the cottage away from the main house, as we did a couple of years ago. I'm not sure whether the guest house has changed hands since then, but this time wasn't as good. The cottage is a good size and having private space is nice, but some areas looked grubby and uncared for. The banister at the top of the stairs needed wiping, and the mirrored bedroom furniture was cracked in several places. Last time there were a couple of cans of pop in the fridge, a nice touch that wasn't there this time. It was very cold during our stay, and we couldn't get warm even with the heaters on. A couple of blankets for the downstairs seating area would have helped, rather than having to carry the duvet down from upstairs. The duvet cover had some marks we couldn't identify, and there was a fake eyelash stuck to the bottom. Not nice. A bright green light from the fire or emergency light came into the bedroom and disrupted our sleep. We don't remember it being a problem before. I know the emergency lighting is there for a reason, but perhaps it could be positioned better. The bathroom was huge and very clean, with plenty of toilet roll, so no complaints there. We were disappointed that the revisit wasn't as good as last time and probably won't stay again, despite the great location.

We were pleasantly surprised to find we'd been moved up from the smaller room we'd booked to one with a little terrace overlooking the lovely garden. It was nicely decorated, clean, and the shower was great. The price is very reasonable for the area, and it's convenient for walking to either Bowness-on-windermere or Windermere, with loads of bars, restaurants and shops nearby. We didn't see any staff, but an email arrived on the morning we got there with the access code. Parking spaces are limited, though I did manage to get one, and there is on-street parking nearby.

Nice, clean and cosy rooms. The location is perfect, a five-minute walk from all the popular places to eat and probably a 10-15 minute walk from the lake shore.
