Windermere Hillthwaite Hotel

Breakfast was delicious, and the two women serving it were as polite and efficient as we remembered from last year. Most of the other staff were lovely and welcoming too, though the receptionist was quite rude when I mentioned the room issue as we left. I came back for my birthday after giving the hotel five stars last year, when we were lucky to get a large room in Tendal Howe with amazing views. This time we had a small room overlooking the courtyard, with no view. The decor was lovely, it was spotlessly clean, and the bath was amazing, but the view was disappointing. There were no proper curtains, just a net one, and light from what I’m guessing was the laundry room kept me awake all night. I’m not sure we’ll stay again.

We spent two midweek nights at this lovely hotel. The views from the bedroom, restaurant and bar were wonderful, and both breakfast and dinner were delicious. Staff were friendly and efficient throughout. Louise, Santa and Claire deserve a special mention.

The views are incredible, and our one-night stay was enjoyable from beginning to end. We got a royal welcome, and the staff were friendly and engaging throughout. My wife made use of the pool, and a sunny spell let us enjoy wine on the impressive balcony. Our well-appointed room had a super king-size bed that was extremely comfortable. I had sea bream with wonderfully crisp skin, paired with a bottle of Gavi di Gavi. Breakfast hit the spot too, and we left very satisfied. I wholeheartedly recommend the hotel.

We had a fabulous night on one of the hotel’s winter packages. The Christmas decorations throughout were tasteful and made the place feel special. Staff were so friendly and welcoming, and the location was perfect for walks around Windermere and Bowness. Both the evening meal and breakfast were fantastic. We’d definitely recommend it.
