The lodge itself was beautiful, but our stay left me feeling that the property mattered more than the guests. It sits right beside the owner's house, and we didn't feel we had our own private space. There was no spoken greeting when we arrived. While we were out, the owner came into the property because of an alleged emergency, without contacting us first, and partly cleaned the lodge without being asked. When we returned late that night, the owner confronted us, which felt uncomfortable. We were also given a long list of checkout jobs: wash the dishes, empty the bin, and leave towels in the bathtub. The impression was that these rules applied at checkout, but the owner's actions during our stay made it seem she expected us to follow them every day. Since we had paid for the space, respecting our privacy should have mattered.

We had a lovely two-night stay, and I’m so glad we chose this place after searching for ages. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a good bed and hairdryer. Tea and coffee were topped up, and they’d bring more if asked, though we drink a lot and bought some at the Co-op in town. The bathroom was compact but had what we needed. One small thing, shower water dripped onto the floor past the bath mat when the door opened, so an extra towel there would help. We were an hour later than expected and the family's son showed us to our room and explained breakfast. We could have continental breakfast brought to us, or go into town to Monties, owned by Oakthwaites I believe, for a full English. We chose Monties and weren’t disappointed. The four coffees we had were included, and the staff were friendly enough to feel like old friends. Someone had said it felt like staying in someone's house instead of a hotel, but we liked that homely feeling. We drove into town each time, though it's about a mile to Windermere or Barrowness if you want to walk. I’m coming back in September and hope to book Monties in town too, since one of us has to stay off the drink to drive. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Deb was a fantastic host and did all she could to make us feel welcome and meet our needs. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The accommodation sits about halfway between windermere and bowness, and there’s a bus stop under a five-minute walk away.

The room was lovely and had everything we needed, and it’s only about a ten-minute walk to the main shop and lake. We were greeted warmly when we arrived for my girlfriend's birthday. Would definitely recommend it and come back.

We had a great stay, and the house was clean and nice, with central heating and a log burner. It has five bedrooms and sleeps eight, though the sofas could bring that up to twelve. The large kitchen has a gas hob and oven, fridge freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. There’s a lounge TV and a DVD player, but the TV and cable reception weren’t great, and the WiFi was weak in places. The driveway fits three cars but is very steep. It’s around a 25-minute walk to lower town, 40 minutes to upper town, and 15 minutes to a pub. The bathrooms need work, and the kitchen pots and pans should be replaced.
