Harte and Garter Hotel

The location is the only thing I can praise. The room windows had broken panes and cracked frames, and they wouldn’t shut properly. The radiator didn’t work either, while the little electric heater did very little against the cold. There were hazards around the hotel too, including a lift that stopped unevenly with the floor and frayed carpets and rugs with curled edges. The reception felt unwelcoming, with a desk placed in front of the original one, and staff did little to make us feel welcome. There’s no bar or restaurant, and the plastic plants don’t disguise how badly the place needs renovating. My advice would be to stay somewhere else.

With shops, restaurants and bars right nearby, the location is very convenient. The hotel sits opposite the castle, right in the heart of Windsor. It has a vintage, almost royal feel, and the rooms are a decent size and well kept. The staff were professional and looked after what we needed during our stay.

The room was spacious, with a lovely bathroom, a comfortable bed and a decent hairdryer. I’ve found a lot of hotels provide poor ones, so that was a nice change. There are lovely details around the hotel too, including beautiful stained glass in the corridors. It’s opposite the castle and right by the central train station. The only issue was a dripping bathroom tap. I was more concerned about the water being wasted, and it needs fixing. I’d definitely stay again in Windsor.

The staff were okay and the location puts you right in town, but there’s no hotel parking. Beyond that, it’s just the bare minimum, with dated rooms and none of the usual services. There’s no restaurant or bar, and to me it simply doesn’t feel like a hotel. I’d pay 20 for it, not a penny more. I would’ve rather met my friends and driven home. Avoid it, and find a nice Airbnb or a hotel with parking instead.
