Watersmeet Hotel

The outdoor pool overlooking the sea was a real highlight, and it was surprisingly peaceful so close to Woolacombe. We also found lovely walks right outside and a secluded cove to relax in, even during the summer holidays. The indoor spa was tranquil too, and afternoon tea on the terrace was awesome. Big compliments to the chef for all the food we got to enjoy, and thanks for giving me vegetarian alternatives.

We had to cancel our birthday booking because a close relative became very unwell and needed our care. I understand the terms didn't allow a refund for our booking, but we asked whether we could move it to another date, perhaps well outside peak season. They weren't flexible at all, and the way it was explained felt short on humanity. We can't afford to pay for another booking anytime soon, and we're really disappointed with how this was handled.

There were mosquitoes all over our room, and when I rang for help, staff said they had nothing to deal with them. We also arrived to find nobody at reception, and later learned it closes in the evening, which felt odd for a hotel costing around £300 a night. The room didn't match the photos on Booking.com either. The category we booked showed a balcony in the listing, but our room had none. The front desk said they didn't know why it appeared that way online. The experience was very disappointing, with a misleading listing, unhelpful staff and poor basic service. It wasn't worth the price.

The views were fabulous. Service was attentive, though there weren't many people in the restaurant since it was low season. The indoor pool was small but clean, and the spa was good.
