Waverley House

We came for a relaxing break after eight hours of travelling, but the stay left the whole trip feeling awful. At checkout, we explained what had happened, and the manager said she’d been told about it and offered a full refund. We had to cut out most of that day’s plans because we were exhausted. We emailed to follow up, but still haven’t heard anything about the refund. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. At check-in, we were warned about a party that would run until 11:30pm and that we’d hear music. We thought we could live with that and went out for dinner. When we got back, the music was so loud it shook the floor and rattled things on the table. We couldn’t hear each other, so our plan for an early night was out. We waited in bed on our phones until the music stopped exactly at 11:30, but the bed itself was uncomfortable, too small for two adults and sloped towards the sides. Then people from the party started leaving, and it seemed one went into the room next to ours. The walls were so thin that we could hear conversations, heavy footsteps, loud intimate activity several times, and some arguing. From 11:30 until our 9am checkout, we didn’t sleep at all. I called the front desk at 1am. Only a maintenance man seemed to be there, and he said he’d walk around. The neighbours went quiet while he checked, then started again after he left. Around 2 or 3am, I went out looking for someone. I found the same man, who walked around with me to see if he could hear anything, but again they went quiet.

The pub has a nice feel to it and serves good food. Staff are really friendly and helpful, and the laundry service was turned around quickly. It’s near the town centre and a range of takeaways. A great place to stay.

A comfortable room, a decent breakfast and a well-equipped bar. The hotel was clean and friendly, and a nice place to stay all in all.

We checked in early and had a pleasant weekend. Lovely food and friendly, welcoming staff. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back.
