Jorvik House

Room 1 was a lovely size, and so was the en suite. I really liked the Scandinavian decor throughout, it gives the hotel its own feel. The staff were friendly and helpful, with someone at reception around the clock. Yorvik House is on a quiet street outside the city centre, opposite St Mary's Priory and near the river. I'd definitely consider booking it again when I visit York.

They upgraded our room when we arrived for my partner's birthday, which made an amazing stay even nicer. The staff were lovely and went above and beyond. Our room was very clean and spacious, and the location was great. We'll be back!

We had everything we needed in room 17, a Luxury Double on the top floor. It was spacious, clean, nicely decorated, and the bed was comfortable. A lovely place in a great location. We'll definitely stay again next time we're in York.

We paid £184 for two nights in room 3, and it was neglected and filthy. The “deluxe” room had a rusty bathroom mirror, huge cobwebs running from the ceiling down the wall to just above the headboard, and a large crack in the toilet bowl. The cobwebs clearly weren't new, and it didn't look as if the room had been cleaned in a long time. With the bathroom door and window shut, it stank of drains or sewage. There was also a building site directly behind the room. We stayed in room 6 exactly 1 year ago, and the difference was unbelievable. Never again. I emailed my complaint with photos as proof four days ago, after receptionist Alexandra advised me to, but got no reply. After three days I called to ask why. I said I'd leave a review with the evidence, and Clare on reception told me the owners wouldn't like me “blackmailing” them. I have no words for how uninterested this place and its staff seem. They don't deserve our business.
